Kelly & Denny Sharp
Vino209 is locally owned and operated
Kelly has owned and operated Heart of Iowa Market Place in Historic Valley Junction for over 5 years. Her love for the district and desire to see it continue to grow and draw visitors led her and her husband to develop this exciting new Wine Café, which she felt was a missing element in the restaurant offerings in the area.
Denny Sharp is the President of FEH Design, a local Architecture, Structural Engineering and Interior Design firm with offices in Des Moines, Dubuque, Sioux City and Wisconsin. As an Architect, he felt it was important to be respectful of the 100 year old building in terms of design and bring back as many of the historic elements as possible when designing the new Café. He also loves this district and the wide variety of activities and events that are held each year in the district and is excited to have the Wine Café be able to complement these events.
Guests will enjoy the beautiful and historic relaxed atmosphere at Vino209, whether out for a night on the town, shopping in the district or stopping by after a bike ride or a run. The Café has been designed by Des Moines architectural firm FEH Design, to synthesize the historic features of the 100-year-old building it will occupy with the functionality required of a successful, modern retail establishment.
Architects Cory & Denny Sharp, along with Interior Designer Michelle Crambilt took special care to showcase the historic aspects of the building, using the natural brick as a major design element. The stunning modern bar brings forth the space the sleek sophisticated element that Owner, Kelly Sharp was seeking. The moveable front doors will allow for the patrons to feel part of the fabric of the district and what is happening on the street.
There is seating for 4 people at the bar and an additional 40 in the Café, including a small soft seating section. There is a small party room available for 16-20 guests and can be reserved for group events.
The party room can be used for a wide variety of purposes including business meetings, wine tastings, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, shopping parties, book club meetings and other social gatherings.
Andrew Phelps relies equally upon his childhood memories of family meals and gatherings, along with his professional kitchen experience to create his European inspired menu at Vino209.
Classically trained and taught in Denver, Colorado’s hotel and fine dining scene, Andrew applies those techniques to the flavors he loved and appreciated as a child. The remarkably fresh ingredients Iowa has to offer has allowed him to showcase his talents offering a wide selection of European inspired dishes that complement Vino209’s evolving and diversified wine menu.
